A Browser icon, tab icon, website icon or 'Favourite Icon' is the small image shown to the left of your shop title in a browser tab.
Adding a Browser Icon
Adding a browser icon to your online shop is really quick and easy. Just head over to your shop's admin area and select the 'Shop' option. This will take you to our Shop Editor.
On the left hand side of the content builder you will see the 'Shop Browser Icon' option. Expanding this menu will allow you to use our Image Manager to select or upload your Favicon. Easy.
Image Clarity
The built in image manager will automatically downsize your image so that it fits in the tab correctly. It is, however, definitely worth starting with a larger image than necessary and ensuring the details are still easily recognisable when downsized. Remember that this is what your customers will see when they bookmark your site so aim for clarity.
There are some good and bad examples of this downsizing issue with companies large and small. For example, check out Aston Martin's Favicon.
They have simply used their logo which is not only dark but also has a lot of detail. It means that the icon looks lost and is barely recognisable as the luxury car brand.
Compare this to Samsung's favicon:
The Samsung logo is normally written out in full but for their Favicon they have heavily simplified this down to just the 'S'. It's simple, clear and yet recognisable even without the tab title as a Samsung 'S'.
Default Favicons
A really easy way to see if a company is using an ecommerce platform is by looking at their favicon. Every platform has a default one that they add in case you don't have one to put in it's place. This serves as a good stop gap but may lead to a bookmarked site being lost in the ever expanding list on a potential customer's browser or mobile.
